Life Stills Exhibition – Lotte Inch Gallery, York 16th Mar – 28th May 2016

Looking forward to showing a number of still life paintings in this exhibition

AN ALTERNATIVE LOOK AT THE MINUTIAE OF DAILY LIFE

The tradition of still life painting goes back hundreds of years, all too often receiving bad press for being unexciting. This exhibition offers the chance to look at the subject matter with renewed enthusiasm and to explore the many possibilities for creative responses to a well know but oft-overlooked theme.

The exhibition will feature breath-taking work from York based painter Amy Rose Clyfan as well as Michael Kirkman, Alexandra Leadbeater and Becky Adams with special art-star guests Edward Burra and Ivon Hitchens!

More information about this exciting exhibition will be revealed soon but in the meantime, save the date for the opening of ‘Life Stills’ on Wednesday 16th March 2016!

big cup, little cup to print
‘Big Cup, Little Cup’ Alexandra Leadbeater Digital Print 40cm x 30cm

How do you like your coffee?
A survey of coffee drinkers says our taste is linked to our personality and there are so many options these days, it can be hard to choose.
Wanting a cup of coffee with some friends, we visited what was once a high-end department store, but now in need of renovation. I fancied a Cappuccino, one friend wanted an Espresso and the other a Latte. Not seeing a menu, we went to the counter and asked what kind of coffee they had.
The answer was “Big Cup, Little Cup.”

Waves nearly reaching the shore…

Wave paintings nearly finished and sounds like the beach is calling….

The beach gets set to return to thecentre:mk

A wet and windy British summer has arrived but who says we can’t still play on the beach and build sandcastles?

Beat the elements when the fully indoor beach arrives back in Middleton Hall at thecentre:mk from July 21 to September 2, with 160 tonnes of sand and a full schedule of activities planned for the whole family to enjoy.

This year thecentre:mk will host an exhibition on the History of Aquatics flown in from the International Swimming Hall of Fame in Florida, USA – the exhibition will delight and enthral with Olympic medals, costumes, and historic memorabilia.

Beach dwellers will be able to enjoy the beach and watch the Olympic Games on a 3.2m x 2.6m screen, and alongside the much-loved crazy golf, in keeping with summer’s sporty theme, the MK Dons Sport and Education Trust will visit the beach every Tuesday and Thursday from 4-6pm to encourage children to partake in sporting activities.

Mum and dad can relax in the deck chairs and enjoy refreshments from Costa Coffee’s beach cafe, while children can be entertained with games and crafts provided by Milton Keynes Play Association. A full Costa menu will be on sale, with iced lattes, fresh paninis and a full range of delicious snacks available throughout the day. Other retailers will also be along the beach front, with seaside-themed treasures.

Traditional Punch and Judy shows bring some humour to the sand and entertain the crowds most Wednesdays, or visit the exhibition of local artist Alexandra Leadbeater and her striking aqua-themed collection of artwork named Wave. There will also be a fun competition quiz for children with a special prize for the winner.

Melanie Beck, head of marketing and communication at thecentre:mk, said: “The beach at thecentre:mk is set to be another fun filled event this year with interactive games for the children, local artist Alexandra Leadbeater and the Olympic Games being shown on our huge screen being just some of our key features. We hope that everyone will enjoy the free activities and families can take advantage of the entertainment organised in our central shopping location.

“We welcome the local charity MK Dons Sport and Education Trust and look forward to thecentre:mk visitors getting into the sporty spirit of Summer 2012. Don’t forget your bucket and spade!”
